Walking pad buying guide

Walking pads are the most compact way to add a treadmill to your home or office. Here’s how the different types compare and what to check before you buy.

Types of walking pad

  • Under-desk walking pad – no handrail or fixed console, controlled by remote, with a top speed of around 6km/h. It sits under a standing desk and slides under a couch or bed when you’re done. Example: the K300 walking pad.
  • 2-in-1 walking pad – adds a fold-up handrail with a console. Keep the handrail down to walk under your desk, or raise it to jog at 10–14km/h. Examples: the K300 2-in-1, K400, K500, V200 and V300.
  • Walking pad with incline – tilts the deck so you walk uphill. The V300 has 8-level automatic incline, the V200 has two manual settings (8% and 11%), and the K300 2-in-1 and K500 have 2-level manual incline.

What to look for

  • Speed – about 6km/h is a brisk walk. If you want to jog as well, choose a 2-in-1 model that reaches 10–14km/h.
  • Motor – 1–1.5HP is plenty for walking. A 2.5–3HP motor runs more smoothly at jogging speeds and with heavier users.
  • Belt size – 100 x 40cm suits most walkers. A 110cm belt gives taller users more room for a natural stride.
  • Incline – walking uphill makes your legs work harder at the same speed. Auto incline changes at the touch of a button; manual incline uses fixed settings.
  • Max user weight – 100kg to 120kg across our range.
  • Storage – most of our walking pads fold or lie flat; the K500 folds to just 12.5cm high and the V200 to 13.5cm, low enough for many beds and couches.

Walking pad or treadmill?

Choose a walking pad if you mainly walk, want to use it at a standing desk, or need something that stores out of sight. If you plan to run regularly, a folding treadmill gives you a longer, wider deck, a stronger motor and top speeds of 20km/h or more. Compare both in our treadmill comparison guide.

Certified to Australian standards

Powertrain walking pads are certified by an accredited laboratory and comply with the mandatory Australian consumer product safety standard for treadmills. They’re registered on the Australian ERAC National Certification Database with suitability and electrical safety certificates.

Walking pad FAQs

What is a walking pad?

A walking pad is a compact, low-profile treadmill without a fixed console or tall handrail, designed for walking at home or under a standing desk. It folds or slides away when you’re done.

What’s the difference between a walking pad and a treadmill?

A walking pad is lower, lighter and more compact, with a smaller deck and lower top speed, so it’s best for walking and light jogging. A treadmill has a longer, wider deck, a stronger motor, higher speeds and usually more incline, so it suits regular running.

Can you run on a walking pad?

Standard walking pads top out at around 6km/h, which is a brisk walk. 2-in-1 walking pads with a fold-up handrail reach 10–14km/h for jogging and light running. For regular running, choose a folding treadmill.

Can I use a walking pad under my standing desk?

Yes, that’s what they’re designed for. Under-desk models are controlled by remote, and 2-in-1 models can be used with the handrail folded down. Most people walk at a slow, steady pace while working.

Which walking pads have incline?

The V300 has 8-level automatic incline. The V200 has two manual incline settings (8% and 11%), and the K300 2-in-1 and K500 have 2-level manual incline.

How fast does a walking pad go?

Under-desk walking pads reach about 6km/h. Our 2-in-1 walking pads reach 10km/h (K300 2-in-1 and K400), 12km/h (K500) or 14km/h (V200 and V300).

Is a walking pad good for an apartment?

Yes. Walking pads run at low speeds, sit close to the floor and store away easily. Put an equipment mat underneath to protect the floor and reduce vibration.

What is the maximum user weight for a walking pad?

Across our range it’s 100kg to 120kg. The K300 2-in-1, V200 and V300 are rated to 120kg; the K300 walking pad, K400 and K500 to 100kg.

Do you deliver walking pads Australia-wide?

Yes. In-stock walking pads are generally dispatched within one business day from our Melbourne warehouse. Metro delivery usually takes 1–5 business days, and longer for regional areas. You can also pick up from our Braeside showroom, open 7 days, but call first to check stock.
